For the last month, I've been working on adding raised bed vegetable gardens, a trellis and ornamental beds along the fence and house. I have many potted plants scattered throughout the yard, waiting for the beds to be complete. It is slow going as I am composting in place since money is tight.
I will be starting my own compost bin and more raised beds in time. I am slowing adding garden soil and compost to my raised beds and lanscaping my yard to improve the look of it. I am reusing my leaves, pine staw and cones as well as kitchen refuse.
I have already attracted a rainbow scarab beatle (dung), as well as the wood roaches. Hopefully my many Citronella plants and Pitcher plants will cut down on the flies and mosquitos.
I am currently fighting with blackberry and creeper vines killing my trees and bushes. I'm working on doing everything organically, "no pesticides."

This is a male Rainbow Scarab Beatle (dung), I had to look this up online. The male has the horn and a more angular appearance.
